Absolutely fantastic experience with Mike, Emma, and the rest of the team. We had met with a number of landscapers before deciding on this one because they were focused on native plants, high-quality/long-lasting approaches, beautiful designs and thoughtful use of given spaces. While we had only a vague idea of what we were looking for, they really helped us come up with a beautiful plan that coalesced a variety of things: native plants, edible plants, water drainage, modern – and all in a small backyard! They also worked with us to help give us what we were looking for within our budget. Mike is always quick to respond to any questions, including after care which is greatly appreciated. We would definitely recommend them to others and would love to work with them again on any future landscaping projects!

After buying a home we love, we discovered that our big backyard had a big problem – WATER, and lots of it! The properties all along our street have a similar issue and our property was collecting more than its share of water. After every big rain fall we had ponds and spongy grass throughout the yard. We tried different gardening techniques and spent a lot of money trying to find the right solution. Last year, with all the rain we had in early spring I frantically scoured the internet determined to find an eco-friendly solution; that’s when I discovered Fern Ridge! Mike and his crew studied our situation and came up with a comprehensive plan for our garden. He created a swale and rain garden to slow the flow of water and also helped us beautify the surrounding garden. We were skeptical at first but with Mike’s depth of knowledge and patience, we entrusted our garden in his capable hands. The project was completed on time and on budget! Although we were still nervous after the first heavy rainfall , Mike’s work did not disappoint! We finally had a solution that worked!! And the garden looked great! Every morning the first thing I do is look out on to my garden and thank Fern Ridge for what I see!! Thanks Mike!

So many good things come to mind when writing this review.
Mike is an expert in all things plants and water-drainage, and along with his designer Emma, came up with a fantastic plan in the landscaping of both our front and back yards, which involved a complete redesign of both front, back and one side of the house, a rain garden, other water drainage solutions and an Eco-raster driveway.
As far as the practical work is concerned, Kyle and Asha went above and beyond to not only meet our aesthetic and practical needs, but also to do it in an eco-friendly way. We’re still in amazement when we look around and think that all this was done by hand (not only the laying down of new materials, but the removal of all old material!), with the use of gas-powered machinery kept to a bare minimum. Their after-care he been fantastic as well; any concerns we had were promptly dealt with. Kyle and Asha were at our place for a few weeks and they are so nice that we were sad to see them go and the conclusion of their work.
Mike was quick to respond to any questions, be it email or text, and he helped find appropriate solutions to match our budget. Kyle and Asha were always prompt in their arrival, and any planned delay was communicated well ahead of time.
Could not recommend these guys more.

Amazingly professional crew! Since my backyard landscaping I have had no trouble with drainage, no water at the back of my house and lots of wildlife visiting. Definitely worth the redo! Instead of moving, we wanted to spend the money on making a backyard we would not want to leave.

After years of fighting the weeds in my front lawn on a busy street, I contacted Vivienne and the Fern Ridge team for help in restructuring the whole design. She put together a lovely plan for a bee and butterfly centered perennial garden.
Her team executed this plan in the hottest days of last summer with great results. This has offered me less time mowing and weeding and much more time appreciating and ‘smelling the flowers’. Which, I must say, in the heat of summer is the nicest way to return home.

“Working with Fern Ridge Eco Landscaping was an absolute pleasure. And the result of their work was an inspiring transformation of our home.
Right from the initial design discussions we knew that we were in good hands. They listened to our goals and asked probing questions to make sure they understood what we were after. Their extensive knowledge of native species and various other environmentally friendly considerations gave us great comfort. The installation team was onsite for several weeks and having them here was easy and without issue. They were respectful of our home and very committed to both making sure that the project was a success and keeping us happy. The ongoing education and post project follow-up support we have received has been wonderful.
We were after environmentally friendly and low maintenance gardens that would accent our home and blend with the surrounding natural landscape and that is exactly what has been delivered. Our experience working with Fern Ridge Eco landscaping has been outstanding!”

“Over the past 2 years, Mike and his team at Fern Ridge have worked closely with us to transform the area around our home from plain grass to a garden that provides year-round interest and full three season colour. Our garden is now a home to birds and butterflies, also bees and other pollinators. Mike’s knowledge of native species and how to use them for best effect is outstanding. His team is hardworking, courteous, and dedicated to the minimal use of powered equipment. Overall, working with Fern ridge has been an enjoyable, collaborative, experience with the best possible result.”

“I learned about the need to plant native species through the Credit Valley Conservation workshops. I planned to take out the non-native plantings in my gardens, but I needed help with a plan. I followed up with a number of landscapers in the community and was impressed with the important projects Fern Ridge Eco Landscaping have been involved with and the awards they received.
I hired Vivienne to transform our front yard in Port Credit to become a haven for birds and butterflies. Vivienne presented a wonderful plan in keeping with our price point and offered suggestions on keeping the project manageable. I am creating the garden over two seasons with Vivienne’s guidance, and even before all the plantings have been done, neighbours have loved the design. I have no doubt the finished garden will demonstrate that native plantings can be supportive to the ecosystem and attractive. Thanks so much!”

“We hired Fern Ridge Eco Landscaping Inc. to install a pond and rain garden in our backyard in midtown Toronto in spring 2017. The impetus for the work was a desire to have a pond coupled with looking for a solution to a drainage issue that had been a constant problem during wet weather. The work was done quickly and well, despite many rain delays. The sod was removed from the lawn, the yard regraded and new sod installed. The pond, complete with waterfall, is exactly what we wanted.
The rain garden works like a charm. We have had no drainage issues since its installation despite severe testing during the very wet 2017 summer. Vivienne and the other staff at Fern Ridge were knowledgeable and very easy to work with.”

“I engaged Fern Ridge to solve the problems of erosion and excess drainage caused by the disconnection of downspouts mandated by the City of Toronto. I also wanted to renovate our old front garden and hopefully solve some privacy issues caused by its location on the street side of the house. Fern Ridge proposed a rain garden in the front and one in the back to take care of the downspout problems. The company’s design for the front gardens’ renovation also included features that while creating a lovely new garden also addressed all the issues that we had faced with the old garden. With the implementation of their design delivery-men no longer use the front lawn as a shortcut and dogs and cats don’t use some areas of the garden for their needs. All this without the use of an expensive fence.
The work for the front garden took place in the midst of a wave of heat and humidity in June 2016 but the team worked conscientiously and hard despite the sweltering heat. The site was tidied up every day at the end of the day and the work was completed on schedule. Everyone was polite and respectful and the whole experience was very pleasant. The rain garden in the back was built a few months later, again the team’s work and conduct was exemplary.
Fern Ridge’s whole design approach was to solve the problems we had and to do it beautifully. They did that and they did it professionally and efficiently. I am very happy to recommend them.”
